Question: How do you explore new product or service ideas with customers?

Answer: There are many ways of doing this, but a simple one is to use a Problem Detection System to explore customer pain points

Key points

This is a prospecting tool to identify customer pain points, and therefore to help generate new product or service ideas.

It is a way of asking customers about their pain points in three stages:

  1. what issues are current products / services not resolving at the moment?

  2. which of these issues is the most serious?

  3. which of these issues is furthest from being resolved?

Obviously, what we are looking for are issues which are of the utmost importance, and which a customer has not the slightest clue how to address.

This tool can be bought separately here.

It also makes up part of our broader “Innovation” training e-package which comprises an e-booklet and nine of our new product / service development tools. To find out more, please click here.
